Fête de la Musique 2007
This is my first time to attend this major music gathering here in Manila. I was suppose to go with my friends last year but I guess it was cancelled.
This year’s Fête was held at Malate area. 4 different stage was set up showcasing different bands and performers of different genre, from Hip-hop, Reggae, Latin, Jazz, Rock and Tribal music, they all rocked the crowd.
Jayem and I arrived at Malate around 8:00pm. We went to Robinson’s place and ate at our group’s staple food (SBARRO). We freshened up after eating (we came from a shoot at SM Southmall) and got ready for battle. While walking to the venue, it drizzled. As we approach the Hip-Hop stage, its getting stronger. Luckily, one of the bouncer let us in on the photo pit to shoot the event. I saw this underground band called Sinag. It is fusion between rock and Hip-Hop I guess but I do like them. Not the usual Gangsta, killing and Hoe banging lyrics that we usually hear, their lyrics were deep man.
Next stop was the World Music stage, lotsa Reggae but nothing caught my ear really. After that we went to the Rock stage. We saw a lot of orcs/emo wannabees I guess. We tried going inside the pit but the bouncer told us that we could not get in because we don’t have a pass. hahaha. Hopes were down… we were about to go home, then suddenly, we saw that Pony and No Fear were the major sponsor of the event. We texted Dona of Trendworks (the distributor of Merrel, No Fear, Mark Ecko, Sketchers and Pony). Wohooo…. She is Heaven’s sent. Dona gave us a pass to greatness. Our All Access pass. Would you believe!
We stayed at the main stage (literally, we were at the stage with the performers). We saw this tribal band. I enjoyed watching them. Then there were Mojofly, Gililing Festival (met their manager and guitarist who happened to be shooters for Pulp). I loved watching Giniling’s performance on stage, watch out for them.
We went home around 2:00am. Tired but very happy
Thanks again Dona! till next time
